Year 1 Primary Care Residency
Frequently Asked Questions
Is your program accredited?
As our program is new, it is pending accreditation from the Canadian Pharmacy Residency Board. We anticipate to have our first graduate(s) in summer 2026 and to have an accreditation survey in fall/winter 2026.
Program accreditation is retroactive to prior program graduates and all successful graduates may use the Accredited Canadian Pharmacy Residency (ACPR) designation.
Is there a stipend for the Year 1 Primary Care Residency Program?
Yes, a stipend and benefits package will be provided. The stipend and benefits are identical to residents in the LMPS Year 1 Inpatient Residency program. Residents are enrolled in the following employee benefits: Medical Services Plan of BC (MSP), Dental, Extended Health and Group Life. LMPS covers 100% of the premiums. The Offer Letter will provide more details.
After your residency, if you become a regular LMPS staff member, you will be entitled to a expanded benefits package, the details of which can be obtained from our Employee Engagement/Human Resources department.
Is there a return-of-service agreement?
LMPS is pleased to offer a return-of-service agreement, termed a Residency Training and Employment Agreement (RTEA), for residents that are accepted into our program. Residents who sign the RTEA will have their tuition fee waived, in return for agreeing to be employed as a full-time Clinical Pharmacist with LMPS for 1 year.
The terms of the RTEA are identical to that offered by the LMPS Year 1 Inpatient Residency program.
Signing the RTEA is entirely voluntary; residents can choose to accept the offer of residency training with our program without committing to the return of employment.
The RTEA applies to positions that are offered across LMPS. As such, residents do not need to choose a position specifically within primary or ambulatory care in LMPS to fulfil the terms of the contract, nor can a position within primary or ambulatory care be guaranteed to be available.
